The Eureka Stockade!.......Ballarat, Australia.
Darkness, still and eerie,
Crickets click in tune,
Then sudden flashing lights
Beneath the circle moon!
Clash and dash of horses,
Scream and screech and clop,
Cry and sigh of voices,
Pain that never stops!
Miners, loud and angry
Burn each licence in the fire,
Then dig for gold next morning
With consequences, dire!
Echo in the valley
Of bullets bold and sharp,
People run for cover,
Hiding in the dark!
Soldiers fire the miners
Beneath the flying flag,
Miners aim together
Both sides quickly sag!
The battle soon is over,
And history turns a stage.
Eureka lives in memory
In Australia's history page!
