Melbourne Cup Hat Parade!
A tall toppled quiver,
in gentle shades of brown,
angles in the morning
past a rainbow clown!
A box-style velvet,
perching on the side,
miss-matched and wicked,
heads a forthright stride!
A brim, wide and fragile,
floats in dainty flap,
above a lovely beauty,
wearing wind-swept wrap!
Broad, firm and heavy,
framing fine-lined face,
glides by with footsteps,
in even clip-clop pace!
Small ribboned fingers,
clasping fresh springed hair,
wave in the breezes,
smiling without care!
Vibrant and fluorescent,
sparkling full of fun,
instant attention,
with steps, almost a run!
Bows, big and flouncing,
flowers, bright and bold,
swish in the sunshine,
edged in richest gold!
Soft, silken switches,
colour-contrast, bright,
slide around the corner,
shimmer morning light!
Fragile, large and teasing,
vibrant, small, all pace,
each in stylish glamour,
towards the Cup Day Race!
Joy Weare.
8th November, 2006.
