A young man, sent to Nam
He was tall and scaggly
Scared to death
"I never killed anyone before"
He confides, tears wet his young face
Years go by, A friend has a surprise
Takes me to see someone,
I often wondered about
Before me is a tall,stocky
Rugged looking man
Barely a resemblance of
that young scared child
of years before
Smiles and happy tears
Big bear hugs
He says, "Call me Crazy"
We sit and talk of the old times
Laugh and love seeing each other
Wow, how great is this, I think
Everyone else has left
All of a sudden, "Crazy" jumps up
Throws me to the floor
as someone walks in the door
I wonder why he calls himself "Crazy"
Rat a tat tat! Rat a tat tat!
Watch my flank brother!
The enemy has broken our lines
Call for back up!
Rat a tat tat! Rat a tat tat!
See the yellow and orange flames!
Its so dark! Shoot at the flames!
He pulls a gun
Aims it at the door
I jump and grab for it
I hold onto him
He calms down
He sobs
Brokenhearted
So many times since then
It has happened
over and over
Each time the same
He protects me
From the enemy
I lost that young scared boy
I gained a Casualty of War
Never will he be the same
But he'll always have a friend
