Climb the highest mountain, punch the face of god
Lilac Trees
It was one afternoon,
A few years ago,
Mom went out to the backyard with the
Hedge clippers to cut away the better
Parts of me.
I watched them fall to the
Ground, crying as the beauty
I once presented to others fell
As a heap on the ground.
Several branches that shuddered
As they fell; several buds that
Wept as they were tossed aside
As though they had never been of much
Use to anyone.
This one afternoon,
A few years ago when
Dad and brother left the house,
Left me, mom took the
Hedge clippers and
Murdered the lilac trees.
