Poetry For Everyday People

Miami

I woke up thinking
of angels, safe walk
ways, I wanted to alter
my patterns, taste what's
bitter, glide with
the flashing neon's,

I owned Miami
even though she
never heard of me,
her alleys remember
me, the jukebox at the
pool hall on Washington Ave.
danced for me and that
lil' strip club where I
met L,

match books with
numbers, slick kid,
free, the age
of no guilt, the moon of
full throttle, young
dumb full of chances,
pretty as can be,
always can catch
the train,

Miami your streets
feel like marble,
I miss fake reading
the Herald while I
checked out people
in your arms, you take
care of your kids
baby,

you took me in
when the world didn't,
you kissed all my
freak then asked me
to let loose

and apparently
sweet sweet baby
we were meant
to be.
