Black pupils shine out from amber eyes that are razor sharp
Scouring, scouring for his prey
From high above looking down, looking on this early morn for the first meal of today.
He targets his kill down; down he goes with silence and with grace
Landing on the birdbath meeting a cock sparrow face to face.
This Kestrel is a hunter and the hunted are his prey
Alas this cock sparrow is made of stone
No breakfast for him today.

A reader's note…..
This is a true story, as I was looking out of my back window enjoying a mug of tea early one morning, looking into the garden I spotted a Kestrel on the bird bath towering above a cock sparrow, he pecked the sparrows head once then twice , if a bird looked astonished and confused this one did, I ran to get my camera to catch this unbelievable moment but by the time I ran back I was to late there was just a little stone cock sparrow sitting in the bird bath……:O)
