M's Poetry
New York, New York
New York, New York
From the balcony
of New York City
I look at all these views
so breathtaking and pretty
past the harbor
look it's the Statue of Liberty
how it makes me proud
she stands for us all
the light so majestic
she stands for America
she stands so tall
how this city reminds me of a melting pot
the brave men and women
all different races
maning the precints and fire halls
courageous with angels on their side
how they burst into that burning building
they were gone in an instant
but their memories live on
I feel their presence
I feel them when I see our flag
red, white and blue
never looked this beautiful
We are children of slavery
children of immigrants
remnants of tribes
and their tired refugees
stronger we stand now together
stronger than we ever knew we could be
in the face of tragedy
from the ashes of our heroes
the people rebuild their city of dreams
banners of unity
it's true just takes a few
to make a community
the bridges can be gapped
the fences can be mended
wounds are slowly healing
a nation reunited, may we never be lost again
looking from this balcony
I know one thing for sure
there is more love
than hate and revenge
I pause and look to the skyline
another smile born
in New York City....
