Musings by The Poet Loriet

D-Day

something old
      something new

something borrowed
      something blue

that's what i'll wear
to divorce court
to undo the spell
i've been under

my "old"
lucky black boots
so i feel
sexy like
kicking a@@

"borrowed" strand
of pearls
from my daughter
so i think of her
and remember
why i have
to be strong

sparkly "blue" earrings
my favorite color
cerulean blue
"borrowed" from my past

seafoam green sweater
baby soft "new"
with white flowers
embroidered purity
femininity
a woman's worth

flare-legged
stylish "new"
grey pants
comfortable
but hip
to greet
the "new" world

and sentimental,
I wear Grandma's
"old" ruby ring she
willed to me
when i was
counting out
her pills
one day
and she said,

"Lori, you know...
the value of sentiment.
You understand.
I want you
to have my ring."

i'm ready now

to face my demons
send them back to hell
where they belong

i'm taking my past
my present
hopes
for my future

with me today

wish me luck
