I heard a man the other night
Who spoke dread words with great delight
That it would be well
If he ended it up in Hell
He did not seem to care
What it would be like to be there
In that place was his every friend
And that was where he wanted to end
He spoke to another who I knew
And boldly said; you will be there too
Oh how I wanted to shout
Do you know what you are talking about?
If I could only make you see
The darkness of this place you want to be
And every moment of eternity will be spent
In pain and agony and torment
Oh Hell; how dreadful the name
A bottomless pit and lake of flame
A place of wailing and gnashing of teeth
Come to its brink and look beneath
See the ones screaming there
Voices crying out in despair
A drop of water our thirst to quench
Listen now and may your heart wrench
No peace for them in the fire
No haven of rest to retire
I just want you to know
This is the place you want to go
And you think my friend will be there too
Lost forever there with you
And I thought; this cannot be
I want her to be in Heaven with me
I sat in silence and bowed my head
And thought tonight God could see you dead
Then you would get your heart's desire
And end up in the lake of fire
I thought of my friend and her precious soul
And I prayed to God He had made her whole
For if she died that night as well
I hoped she would not end up with you in Hell
Turn back I cry from that dreadful place
Put your hope and trust in the Man of Grace
All I can say from a heart of love
It is better to end up in Heaven above
