Footsteps I am following of the One who goes before
Leading me ever nearer to Heaven's golden shore
Soon the narrow way I will no longer roam
For I am reaching the end of the journey home
Once I heard my Saviour calling; come and walk with me
And if you take my hand; Heaven bound you will be
No easy path I promise; but I am with you to stay
On your journey home; each step of the way
Steep have been the hillsides my weary feet have trod
But I am treading in the footprints of the Son of God
Life's raging sea has drowned me in its tormented billowing foam
And the winds of strife have buffeted on my journey home
The sun is often covered by darkened clouds above
But my hand is gripped by the One I love
He picks me up when I stumble; He hears my gasping breath
Soon I know I will walk with Him through the valley of death
Weary one; He will whisper; soon it will be the end
A few more steps to take and then you shall ascend
Far above the height of sky's blue sunlit dome
And a mansion is waiting for you at the end of the journey home
