Poetry For Everyday People

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things

Unconditional love,
listening to Billie Holiday
in the rain, the thankful
sound of fountains, classical
music, Jazz, Blues, Springsteen
on a winters night concert, Nancy Griffith
as I drink a cold beer in a rocking
chair, Art discovered and undiscovered,

gardens, gardens, sweet
magical gardens, the
smell of flowers, crickets
at night, bars in alleys,
happy hour (but not for the prices),
hippie girls/women, all kind women,
men who really read in book stores,
tough men with soft hearts, football
on Sunday, Halloween, lanterns, spells,
thanksgiving and all the trimmings,
Christmas, how can you not like the
vibe of the whole world buying
presents for each other,

the sound of nylon stringed guitars
as I play Nile Blues, happy glances,
good vibes, people who give peace
signs, the under dog, random acts
of kindness, the defeat of injustice,
a good wink, kind feet on an ottoman,
flowers in the hands of smiles, sound
of rain, walking, old walkways, Museum's,
holding hands, cobble stone, street lights,

all dogs despite their owners,
butterflies dancing, the smell
of my parent's house, the smell
of lilac and jasmine, the unspoken
at home, secrets between friends,
comfort between strangers, stamps,
letters, black and white TV, record
players, old records, the sound of
kids playing some place safe,

people that don't judge, open
minds, open hearts, the freedom
of writing, reading, touching
some one a thousand miles away,
my inner circle of poetesses
for they know all from the
inside, hip to the trip, hard
and soft as a rose,

all my beautiful shy friends,
all my brothers and sisters
who live the life of the
lonely freaks, we know what
they never will,

the perfect kiss
in the perfect spot
at the perfect moment.
