Heart Of The Matter
I Remember ........
I remember toffee apples,
Candy floss and ferris wheels,
The Phantom of the Opera,
Pickled eggs and jellied eels,
I remember Marlon Brando,
He was quite a superstar,
A shilling on a Saturday,
Was sure to take you far,
I remember Coronation Street,
Minnie Caldwell, she was good,
Ena Sharples and her hairnet,
I remember, she was rude!
I remember mods and rockers,
The Beatles and the Stones,
They said I looked like Twiggy,
Short blonde hair all skin and bones,
I remember Cliff and Elvis,
Living Doll and Blue Suede Shoes,
Diana played her debut role,
In Lady Sings the Blues,
I remember ice cream parlours,
With curly plastic plates,
A juke box in the corner,
Where people went on dates,
I remember rag and bone men,
A Clydesdale horse and cart,
And the coalman on a Wednesday,
I still remember that,
I remember Nitty Nora,
On Safari in our school,
And Mr. Young with hob nail boots,
Who was really,
No ones fool,
I remember when I thought,
That being thirty was so old,
But now I'm past my sell by date,
I don't half feel the cold.
