Heart Of The Matter
The Mad Poet - Trilogy
Sometimes, I like to write ‘mad' poems, the people around me inspire ‘mad' poems.
Here are three true stories …… told in rhyme.
I'M PARTIAL
I'm partial to a glass of wine,
I'm fond of Fetzer's Rose,
It leaves me with a little glow,
And feeling warm and cosy,
But if I get too much of it,
But legs do not behave,
My limit is a glass or two,
The rest of it I save.

A BLOODY LIP
I phoned and spoke to my sweet niece,
And asked her “How are you”?
She said that she was all right now,
The bleeding had stopped too.
She told me she had cut her lip,
And Oh! how it was bleeding,
She said the plaster wouldn't stick,
And that's, what she was needing.
I asked her how it happened,
And she said that she'd been out,
She was playing in the garden,
And Daddy said “Don't shout”.
And Robert had his guinea pig,
He had to let it out,
And Kai the dog was chasing it,
And round and round about.
And Paul was there, with Marie Claire,
Who just fell off her bike,
The wheel now had a hole in it,
Paul made it with a spike.
And Graham Brown, from two doors down,
I don't like him very much,
He got me into trouble,
Let the rabbit out the hutch.
And then when we were playing,
With a conker on a string,
That Barrie spun it round and round,
And hit me with the thing.
My lip was red and swollen,
And Mummy said “Don't cry”,
It was bleeding, but it's stopped now,
And I have to go,
Bye Bye,
(Well ….. I did ask!)

BREWSTER'S LAST STAND
My brother had a little dog,
Quite partial to the whisky,
He used to steal it from the glass,
It made him go all frisky,
Sometimes he'd be quite sneaky,
In fear of being caught,
He'd keep well hidden, out of sight,
He knew he shouldn't aught,
But we knew when he'd been at it,
When we saw him trying to walk,
His eyes were crossed; he staggered,
And he used to try and talk.
He was a little Staffie,
And Brewster was his name,
So many times they called the vet,
And said, “he's drunk again”.
