 The Mistress of Word Play

Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone. May the Holidays bring peace, love, and joy.

I wrote the Christmas cards and wrapped the presents,
set up my tree, played Christmas carols absorbed the essence.
I bought the ham and the potatoes for the big meal
then sat down and for that one moment began to feel,
the true meaning of the season,
why all the hoopla the real reason.

I called my special friends and did more shopping,
searched all the stores for the perfect topping
for my eight foot artificial Christmas tree
still inside I heard a voice saying, "Can't you see?"
Instead I hung the stockings up,
and poured another steaming cup.

I saw the star up in the heaven and it did shine.
We all opened up our gifts and drank Blackberry wine.
Yet for an instant I left the noise and crowd
and recalled his cross and empty shroud
bowed my head and thought again
of our Savior who does reign.
