What I Know For Sure

*written on the one year anniversary of my mom's passing*

What I Know For Sure

I once believed time would heal all wounds
but I have learned even more so
to smile bravely in the face of doom
a child I am not
a woman I have become
you still are here with me
it is I who carry your genes

Sorrow replaces joy
joy replaces sorrow
it's the peaks in the valleys
that make me a stronger woman for tomorrow
oh we did share a wonderful time
those times keep me smiling
those times keep me going

so this day I reflect
with this void left
I wish I could visit your grave
but it's roses I sent out of respect
because my mom you will always be
death doesn't change
any of your meaning
in a way your life burns brighter
I can see how it really was
much more clearer

here is my candle
the light you represent
this is my reminder
to live life to the fullest
looking back with no regrets
everything is a lesson
words that I really apply now
life is full of questions
but very little answers
so I take comfort in what I do know Mom

you sure was loved
I sure was blessed
the good always will out weigh the bad
my state of mind, my determination to be happy
won't let me be detoured by any dark clouds
