Heart Of The Matter

Pub Lunch

I met a friend for lunch today,
She called me up,
“What do you say?
Lets' meet and have a bite to eat,
Our favourite pub,
Our usual seat?”

I hadn't seen her for a while,
I liked her hair,
And she liked mine,
Checked out the menu,
As you do,
And chose the Combo,
Made for two.

“You've lost some weight,
I've put some on,
You do look good,
It's been so long”,
So much has happened,
Good and bad,
We spoke of happy,
Spoke of sad.

The time flew by,
And happily,
We relished,
In our reverie,
I told her how,
I missed her so,
I checked my watch,
It's time to go,

A lovely day,
A nice surprise,
We wracked our brains,
For alibis,
Now late for work,
Run out of time,
I liked her car,
And she liked mine.
