Just a Little Holiday Cheer

So now you can enjoy the holiday season
Snuggling up under the warm global blanket
Of carbonic gases with your favorite
Cuddle bunny, or other suitable shape shifter
Ventured out of it dark burrow to find a warm place
To lay its plastic eggs
So decoratively wrapped in iridescent recollection
And hypnotic promises
Those money back guarantees
And new generation graphics
Will make you feel like
You are right inside the game
No more hokey Jimmy Stewart pop guns
Or Mommy trainer wet me babies
This is high tech Sino-pop anamae
Riding the fumes of oceanic freight liners
Just for you!

No more snow white Christmas
Thank you Chinese industrial revolution.
No more World Peace
Thank you American gas guzzler
No More Santa Claus
Thank you Internationalist big box retailer
No More Grace of God
Thank you Henry Kissinger
For helping the poor from the jungle to the World Bank
From the farms of their ancestors
To the cities of their masters
To the slave camps of their torturers
To make the bling that ‘retail' hypnotic
Consumer zombies in shopping frenzies
And glutinous electronic media orgies
Lost in a crystal ball that doesn't snow anymore
When you shake it upside down
Drowned in a polypropylene potpourri
Of Yule-tide bargains on overstocked third world imports bound for the county landfill
Made with the bloody fingers of overworked women
For a day's dollar wage
To drive a price lower than anything made in America
To yank your career right out from under you
And create an even bigger demand for slave labor
To make things even cheaper
For the newly unemployed

We'll give you the hot Latin sounds
Of ringtone jingles
And the anguished cries of polar bears
On a north pole without ice
Christmas carols from the dark ages of the twentieth century,
Sung in duets by iconic rock has-beens
And upwardly mobile celebrity wanabes…
Muscle their way through the sound current
Riding the power of corporate money
Bled from your wallets
And the shivering cup of the homeless
Fleecing you like Jesus' little lambs
All shorn and naked in a cruel world
Bleating for your share of Mama's milk…
We'll give you a mother's sobbing lament
Her child dead in a hale of bullets called "friendly fire"
From a self righteous military might
Who came to her land to give her a better life
So that she, too could have a holiday like us

Just as empty… and just as full of plastic
Merry X-Mas everyone!
