Heart Of The Matter
A Mairi Xmas and a Linda New Year!
My friend sent me a Christmas card, with a poem she'd written for me,
I've displayed it right here for the whole world to see,
I found an old picture she's sure to remember,
How we made quite an entrance,
A line dance ….. in December!
We were regulars there, at that old country club,
With all the best bands, best chef, and great grub,
When the band started playing, we were first on the floor,
And at the end of the evening, we were last out the door,
And the picture depicts such a fine memory,
Two line dancing fairies,
My good friend, and me!
MAIRI'S CHRISTMAS POEM
I wish you a Mairi Xmas,
If that's what you need,
I'll send you my cat,
He likes a good feed,
I can post you my mother,
You're welcome to her,
She's a bit of a dumpling,
(So don't trifle with her)
I'll wrap up the housework,
It'll be a big box,
I'll Air Mail you Neil,
Then I'll change all the locks!
I'll call all the weans,
Tell them you're my replacement,
I'll grab me a whisky,
And head for the basement,
My feet in a basin,
A drink in my hand,
Just how much pleasure,
Can one person stand?
That's a real Mairi Xmas,
But what about you,
You can have a Linda New Year,
When your wishes come true,
When love, peace and happiness,
Greets every new day,
When nothing but sunshine,
Stands in your way,
A Linda New Year,
Sounds the best gift of all,
I'll wrap it up now,
For Santa to call.
(Ah, the song and the dance will also trigger some memories, remember?)
