I have always been an Elvis fan, ever since I was a very
young girl. The first time I had seen Elvis, was on the
Edd Sullivan show, back in 1957. The youth of America,
had never seen anything like him. He had his own unique,
style of music. As of that day, music would never be the
same again. His voice was truly a gift from God. I visited
Graceland, back in 2002, and what an experience that was.
He was in the Racket-ball room with friends, the day he died.
What a feeling that was being in that very room. I couldn't
help but cry. No one could sing like Elvis. And their will
never be another Elvis. Here is a poem I have written about
him, in honor of his birthday, and his death.
~~~~~~~~
There once lived a man,
they called him the King.
Oh' he had a lot of talent,
He could really sing.
~~~
Born in thirty-five
In Tupelo,
He sang Rock and Blues,
some Gospel and Soul.
~~~
Yes, he was a legend,
in his own time.
The ladder to success,
he'd surely climb.
~~~
He started singing,
in the year of fifty-four
He made thirty-three films
and hit songs, galore.
~~~
He was a very kind hearted,
and generous Lad.
And little did he know of,
the great influence he'd had.
~~~
Down through the years,
he made it to the top.
From "Love Me Tender"
to "Jailhouse Rock"
~~~
He purchased Graceland,
in Memphis Tennessee.
Then served a two year stretch,
in the U.S. Army.
~~~
Yeah' he loved fast cars,
and he loved his friends.
But his mama came first,
she was the queen of Graceland.
~~~
Then he married Priscilla,
in May of sixty-seven.
At the Aladdin in Vegas,
Twas a marriage made in Heaven.
~~~
Happy and in love,
as any two could be.
Then along came baby,
little Lisa Marie.
~~~
He continued his music,
down through the years.
He'd perform live concerts,
that left 'em' in tears.
~~~
His fame and fortune,
would soon come to an end.
For he gave of himself,
to the world over and over again.
~~~
Then on August 16, 1977
to the world's dismay.
This legend of a man,
had suddenly passed away.
~~~
He was only forty-two,
when he was taken away.
America will never forget,
that fateful day.
~~~
Though this legend in gone,
in our hearts we'll always know.
That Elvis is still,
The King of "Rock N Roll".
