POEM FOR LACEE

There is a young girl
I didn't know
A pretty, smart girl
Whose parents loved her so

She died last night
While driving a car
It's so sad
Her life didn't go far

For years I've been friends
With her step dad
He's one of the best friends
I've ever had

And hurt I'm sure
He feels right now
For her, for him
I wish I could take away the pain somehow

We don't know why God
Gives and takes
Why he gives pleasure
Then pain that makes our aches

We often think
He doesn't care
When death comes
It's too much to bear

And Lacee
Didn't deserve to die
I am sad
There is a tear in my eye

I'll pray for her
Like I always do
And ask for peace
For all of you

That you can make it
Through the storm
Back to the place
That's safe and warm

I'll ask God
why he didn't take me instead
An old woman
Not a pretty, young kid

Perhaps the answer
We'll never know
But still I'll pray
The hurting goes

And Lacee will go
To heaven above
I know she's in
God's arms of love.
