Sermon By Evangelist Ethel Buchanan

The following is an excerpt from a message I preached at my home church;

Last Days Apostolic Faith Church in St. Louis, MO on Sunday, January 21, 2007

Read II Chronicles 35:20-24 and entire chapter for background story

Josiah was chosen king at the age of 8, over Judah after a long history of kings who did evil in the sight of the Lord, worshippers of Baal. Josiah reigned for 31 years in Judah. During the 18th year, Hilkiah the chief priest brought Shaphan the scribe the book of the law he had found during their renovation of the temple, after ridding the temple of all the idol gods, and images etc. Shaphan gave it to Josiah and after reading it, he wept and tore his clothing and sent them to speak to Huldah, a prophetess; who confirmed what was written and sent a prophecy to Josiah to take heed to. (II Chronicles 34:28) It was prophecied that if Josiah would obey the Lord, he would go to his grave in peace.

Topic: "GET OUT OF MY WAY"

After the elaborate preparations were carried out for the passover, and the temple had been made ready, during the 18th year of Josiah's reign something happened. A change came over Josiah and though the Bible doesn't say it specifically, it's obvious by the results, that Josiah forgot the words of the prophecy, and became proud and lifted up in his own understanding.(vs. 22)

Verse 20 opens with Necho, king of Egypt traveling past Judah on his way to a totally different battle, when along comes Josiah causing problems for Necho. Necho sent his soldiers to ask Josiah, "What do I have to do with you? In other words, I'm not bothering you, so what do you want? I'm just passing through, minding my business; I may have some faults, but I'm not a threat to you, I have no war with you; so why are you in my face?" Josiah pressed the issue and instead of walking away, he followed Necho outside of the town, even down the river Euphrates as far as the valley of Megiddo (look on a map and see how far this valley is from Judah). When Necho had put up with all he was going to put up with, had his archers shoot at Josiah and they killed him. He did not die in peace as was prophecied, because he did not fulfill the requirements (if he would obey the Lord).He didn't even leave the battle field in the King's chariot he came in, but ended up in a second one. (vs. 24) Don't lose your blessing and have to take second best because of disobedience. Don't start off alive spiritually, then suffer a spiritual death.

We can start off doing God's will and mess up along the way, leaning to our own understanding. We do a good work, but then we come down from continuing in the will of God. We should have the same determination that King Necho had...Tell the devil "Get Out of My Way". We can all relate to something in our lives where we need to tell the Devil:

Maybe I was on  drugs years ago,  but I'm addicted to the will of God now

Maybe I did have a baby out of wedlock, but I'm raising my child in the house of God now

Maybe my marriage didn't work out, but I'm learning how to fall in love with Jesus.

Maybe I do have a horrible illness that doctors can't cure, but I know Jesus is a healer

Maybe one of your children is on drugs and the other selling drugs, but they are still alive to pray for

Maybe one of your daughters  is pregnant and the other a dropout and in a gang, but they can still be saved

Maybe I don't have an income and am facing bankruptcy, but my God shall supply all my need

Whatever your situation, the devil is doing his job to come behind us and bring up our past, talk about how negative our future looks, but we have to do our jobs and tell him "Get Out of My Way". Get thee behind me Satan, God brought me to this, and with His help, I'm coming on through this. Yes, I have to bear my cross; but I won't stand by and let you put your foot on my cross trying to make it harder for me. I've laid aside the weights and sins, so devil, you get up off my mind, my emotions, my body, my finances, my children. "Get Out of MY Way". I'm God's child, and devil, you have no control over me. You don't even have keys to your own house, Jesus took the keys of hell and death, He snatched victory from the grave; I'm more than a conqueror, and there is nothing I'm going through that He can't deliver me from. No door closed in my life, that He can't unlock. In the name of Jesus, we have the Victory!!!

Tell the devil in every area of your life "GET OUT OF MY WAY", I'm running for my life...
