ROBBERY OF ROMANCE
Candlelight and roses
and promises of forever
are fine...
...but happily ever after
is a thief stealing joy
to be found in
the seemingly mundane.
When you live expecting
fairy tales, the best of love
passes you by
and you never see the myriad
expressions of the spirit of another
in every day.
Like
the look he gives you
as you sit reading
that he doesn't think
you see.
And
the cup of hot coffee
you discover, left on the counter
as you step from the shower.
That
spontaneous kiss
on the back of your neck
while your arms are elbow deep
in dishwater.
When
he makes sure to tell you
how pretty you are when you
open your eyes to him
in the morning.
I'd trade a thousand cards,
a river of chocolate,
and Tiffany diamonds,
just to keep those moments
you romance me
with who you are...
