Poetry For Everyday People

Never Again

Night comes
and we take
a deep breath
of loneliness,
a deep breath
of one way compromise,

tired of making a home
for others.

I'm a red cardinal
surrounded by squirrels,
a blues soul
who's friends are too
far away,

I am kissing the nights
as always, Yet the hugs
are far, the phone calls
at 3 a.m., the knock on the
door at midnight,

playing music until the sun
comes up, then walking to the
beach for a smoke, the ocean
sure put some healing in us,

too many nights now without
you,

of course, as usual  "I am
working my way back to you
baby", my beautiful friends,

I'm a few years away from
loves pain blooming,

yet a few years away from
celebration.
