Dedicated to my grandson, Dartagnan Henry
9 years old
Your Grandpa Roy was a country boy
There was no time to play with toys
The animals were his greatest pets
Three times per day their food he'd get
The tallest kid in his grade school
A baseball cap made him look cool
His favorite thing was memorizing verse
About the good old book he would converse
One of the tallest boys of all the kids
His chair was an old barrel with a lid
Old Grandpa Roy worked very hard
Under the hot sun in the yard
Planting fruit trees one by one
He worked long after the day was done
Gathering eggs was his best chore
The hens would lay then layed some more
His father with seven brothers too
Together they made up the working crew
Grandpa Roy grew up on the farm
With a worn out bible neath his arm
He drove the tractor at an early age
A serious boy who earned his wage
With his seven brothers climbing trees
They all went home with scratched up knees

Note:
Growing up on a farm, Grandpa Roy grew to love
animals, planting corn, fruit trees, a vegitable
garden & loved the peace of a quiet sunset. He had
a very happy life as a child.
