Up To Bat

I was the new boy on the block, had confidence
when seated in the room, for a conference
sweaty ~ waiting ~ not knowing what to expect
the players were all new to me, yet

I could hold my own, when placed under their
microscope ~ I had to show them here
all my cards, or be doomed ~ masters indeed
toying with me, but not for greed

needed to read between the lines, to succede
a lions den I was in ~ ready to proceed
joy came over me, at last ~ my turn up to Bat
wanted to incorporate ideas, this and that

here am I, to tell you, after quite some time
lessons I've learned back then, helped me fine,
today, I feel the joy, now that is that
I'm still at ~ up to Bat.
