Heart Of The Matter

In My Room...

In my room, I woke to sunlight,
Dancing dappled on the wall,
I lay a while and sent my thoughts to you,

I wondered as I sent them,
If you knew the way I felt,
Did you lie awake and think about me too?

I wondered if your night was calm,
Surrendering to peace,
Did you dwell in perfect slumber in your bed?

Did you waken in the early hours?
The way you sometimes do,
Did you read the private thoughts within my head?

Did you wonder if the words I wrote?
Were penned with you in mind,
When I wrote about a love so hard to find,

Did you feel that it was down to fate?
That both our paths had crossed,
Are you ready now to leave the past behind?

I wondered if you wakened,
With a longing in your soul,
For something more than just a fantasy,

Can you really go the distance?
Throw all caution to the wind,
And travel down this rocky road with me,

I don't have much to offer,
I'm a poet in distress,
The pain and tears are there in every line,

In my room, I lay in silence
I sent my thoughts to you,
And I wondered,
If the thoughts you had, were mine.
