Hebrews 12:1
"Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."
"The Biggest Loser!"
Most of us have watched the weekly show "The Biggest Loser". Some of us would not dare miss it, some may have even begun their own weight loss program. The focus of the show is getting several people from all over the country to push themselves beyond what they feel is their "breaking point" or limitation and beginning to eat healthy foods and a proper diet, sticking to this regimen in the prospect of losing the most pounds, and winning $250,000 for their efforts. In the process, each person learns more about their level of endurance, and their own character; and has the TV audience and their coach cheering them on. But now that I have your attention, keep reading and find out how to lose weight in areas that you may not be aware of.
Think about a terrible injustice that was done to you, an ex husband or wife, your parent or child, a sibling, a neighbor, church member, co-worker, someone just did you wrong and you forgave the person, but you vowed to never forget it.
Or maybe you have done something in the past and you haven't forgiven yourself. Perhaps you are one of the many people who procrastinate about your Bible study, or your prayer life. Everything else takes first place, and God's Word and communion with Him becomes the last thing you do before bedtime, if at all.
It's possible you have developed a habit that's about to become an addiction and you wouldn't want anyone to know. Have you allowed someone to lower your self esteem? Have you convinced yourself that you can't accomplish your goals? Do you feel that because of family or financial problems that you will never get ahead in life?
All of the aforementioned problems are EXTRA WEIGHTS, EXTRA POUNDS; and the longer we carry them around without focusing in on the real problem and addressing it with the solution, we will continue to get spiritually overweight. When the world knows they have a weight problem, they do something about it; what about the children of God?
It's time we get on our spiritual scales: (the prayer closet) and weigh in. If we truly pray and ask God to show us ourselves, He will reveal to us what we need to do, whether it is forgiveness, repentance, aggressiveness, compassion, determination, more time in the Word, witnessing more; whatever it takes to lose those weights that slow down our steps on this journey.
Being overweight in the natural causes heart problems. Too much fat around the heart, blood can't pump as fast and flow as well. In the spirit realm, being overweight with problems and sins causes heart problems too. You ever notice how irritable you get when you're upset? Cranky? Frustrated? There's no room for love, when all that is in the heart. The blood of Jesus can't flow through you; to keep your spirit, body, heart and mind free of sin. That flow of blood washes away those things that so easily beset you, so that you can run again this Christian race.
Start your training regimen right now. Get on that scale...see how much you weigh spiritually. Get on a spiritual diet, Get spiritual exercise. You have a coach and an audience cheering for you too; Jesus and the whole host of heaven. Want to be the Biggest Loser? As children of God, we have a race to run, and it is not just run by faith (as the song says), but it is run with works also, because faith without works is dead! The true winner of a race is the one who wins the prize, and we are pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling in Jesus Christ! Don't you want to hear Jesus say well done thou good and faithful servant, you've finished your course???
Come on....you can do this!!!!
