How beautiful were those oldest country gardens
I helped my mother build then when a lad~
We would go get loads of moss covered rocks
And the darkest soil carted home by dad~
We would use the oldest dead and aging logs
And mulch from under lantana bush so pure~
Spread it all deep and sive for lumps and seed
Old gardens they would anything endure~
We would make our own statues ever fine
From wire formed frames then with cement~
And plat our own arches out of natural things
Even plat shade houses where so much time we spent~
I remember grafting apple trees many times
We had several different on one tree~
Each one retaining the same as before
With its own healthy originalitry~
Vegitables we never bought them then
We grew all of our own~
And then share what we had over with everyone
Who lived close and around our home~
Flowers .. Oh those flowers
My mother just about had them all that be~
And she would make sure all had some
That was how people were back then you see~
But now these days in modern times
One simply cannot have gardens as they did then~
As many laws prevent the many
From using natural material as back when~
Ive now even had to buy rocks
And all one needs now is for sale~
If you can find what you want naturally
Just listen to the greenies whail~
How I remember those beautiful old country gardens
In those beautiful old country homes so grand~
But every thing has changed now
Its now place your money in my hand~
We never bought hardly a thing then for material
It was all laying out there to rot within the scrub~
I can still see my mothers beautiful show blooms
Growing out near the back in old painted bath tub ~
