A friend of mine younger in years and in time
Told me he was getting a horse~
But he lived in a small home all on his own
On a small house block by water course~
I asked him then and I remember when
Where will you keep your new horse pet~
He told me in his small backyard I said tha'd be hard
You can't swing a cat there if it was wet~
So I thought it best that let him know of the test
With a pet brings responsibility~
And one has to maintain and feed it and train
A horse friend takes money can't you see~
It costs a lot and you need a plot
Not on the lawn outside back of the house~
Outside your home where you live alone
There is not hardly room there for a mouse~
So I told him my thought and to him this report
If you wish to go broke own a horse~
Costs a lot more than some things you adore
And a lot more than that there pie and source~
So much to spend and you can't ask for a lend
Ever so much does a horse it does need~
Theres tackle and rig and a paddock so big
And as well a horse does need to feed~
Be it a pet or for show you just have to know
For keeping a horse it is all of the same~
And it has to run from daybreak till day done
You will always need access to chaff and to grain~
He said it'll be right Ill check it of a night
This bloke he did not have a clue~
Set on this idea having a pet horse so near
Never had an idea of what he was to do~
So I tried there to tell but it never went all that well
Told him he'd need vets and the likes~
I said it'd need a stable as in it to live
He said it'll be right in shed with the bikes~
So away I did go with a smile don't you know
And not long after I walked down that way~
My bedroom is bigger than this blokes front yard
And there was a horse chewing away on the day~
It had been there for hours just eating his flowers
And I could not believe my own eyes~
He was there lagging and bragging about his new pet
Telling all how he had himself there such a prize~
So I just let it all go as common sense it will show
But some people should learn don't you see~
That in owning a pet rough the going can get
And with pets as well comes responsibility~
