It Should Be A CompulsionIn every land upon this earth In every city and every town and place~ There should be a compulsion to do a course Before two lovers become one in the married state~ It should be at least a six months course In order to teach and as well decide~ Every single good and bad there can be And to if inlove do so with pride~ Every aspect of being married Hopefully in the old fashioned way~ Were two become one for life Loving each other forever and a day~ The need for communication a must And the putting one another first~ Always striving to find a new way To have loving each other their greatest thirst How to handle the bad times and rain As well as good and sunshine too~ How to , If to , When to , have children And how to give it your all and see it through~ All the aspects of being married In an equal marriage both as one~ To love each other equally forever Until their time is done~ Not to treat marriage as a short term thing To take the contract ever so sincere~ Always being there for one another first With love and compassion , understanding ever dear~ To take the time to know each other so Always watching for a bump along the way~ And giving each other all you've got to give Being ever loving and caring on the day~ To set examples for your children And to insist on a home of nurturing love~ Two people getting married for life Going the same direction hand in glove~ There should be a course that's a compulsion No course no marriage to be~ And if this was a law of this earth So happy would so many more simply be~ ( God knows you have to do one to drive a car } Terrence Michael Sutton Copyright 2007 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
