Who's " Will " Is It?!
"And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." Matthew 26:39
WHOSE WILL BE DONE?????
'Your will be done' is a difficult prayer to pray sincerely". Jesus taught us to pray that God's will might be done 'here on earth just as it is in heaven.' Exactly how is God's will done in heaven? If the reference is to the angels (as I think it is), then in essence, Jesus asks us to pray that we might become a little more like the angels (who always obey) and a little less like the demons (who never obey). When that happens the earth will become a little more like heaven and a little less like hell.
"But God's will is rarely done on the earth. After all, there are over five billion wills on the earth and still only one will in heaven. Just look around you. Do you see God's will being done? Pick up the newspaper and read about a serial killer. Read about the killing in Iraq, the slaughter in Sudan, the corruption in high places in America, the rise of satanic ritual child abuse. It looks like someone else's will is being done.
"In some ways 'Your will be done' seems like the most hopeless of all prayer requests. Seldom do we mean it. Seldom does it seem to be answered." All too often, we think of reasons why God should change His mind and do things OUR way, so that OUR WILL be done!
This Christian walk is about really meaning it. Is it God's will that you jump in your SUV on Saturday morning and go to the Mall walking around needlessly or is it yours? What about that prayer time you promised God?
Is it God's will that you play golf, tennis etc. on your day off, or yours? What about taking some extra time to brush up on your knowledge of the Word?
Let's be more careful when we pray that prayer "Your will be done". Let's keep our lives, our thoughts and actions in a place where only GOD'S will is the one being done, and not our will. Where would any of us be if Jesus had done His will in the human sense, and stepped down off of Calvary, and said, "Nope, don't feel like dying today, maybe another time"!!!!! Our souls would be lost! Jesus said "My meat and drink is to do the will of the Father. This was the purpose God sent Jesus into the world. It's God's purpose for our lives, to fulfill His will.
