I lost my Father in 1990.
He was a proud American Navy veteran.
He flew B24's during World War II
I wrote this shortly after his death.
I have missed him everyday since.
MY FATHER
Tis with a sad heart I take up pen
To write about the life of one man
A simple person, self taught in life
From birth till death his was that of strife
Born of farmers and workers not set with wealth
Blessed with love and happiness till failing health
A man who believed life was worth it all
He worked, he played, sometimes stumbled but never to fall
As a man boy so young he went off to war
Till his death he wore scars from 1944
This man so tall and so proud was a giant to me
Teaching, loving, showing the way with rides on his knee
He led me down the path of faith and what is right
He comforted me when the fear came from dark of night
With loving hands gentle but firm so strong
I learned to follow the road that lead to do no wrong
He's gone now to that heavenly reward he won
If I could but be half the man he was
Then I know that heavenly reward waits for me
When we can be together once more
On God's great beautiful shore
