In one of the oldest parts of Australian bush
In country wilderness right up a big old hill~
It was much the same as it always had been
I walked it for days looking about at will~
There was the thickest ever and oldest scrub
Rocks so ever large and as old were they~
When I came across a mass of broken rusted shovels
And the odd chain links from bullock and horse dray~
There not far away a once upon a time small home huts
Here and there where they once were to be found~
And away some endless high heaps of rubble lay
Like once long ago man made mounds upon the ground~
I came across a length of old as ever rusted piping
Than once ran down the slope from where I stood~
It seemed it was carried by a frame long ago
Down to the creek below on this base of wood~
The wood was as rotten as could be
But still gave it's secrets away~
I wondered what had happened here
Back it seemed forever and a day~
I then came across a whole area of bones
And believe me there were a lot~
And later on according to what I was told
Long ago up there was a chinese gold digging plot~
stories old of a one mighty fight
Between the chinese diggers one and all up there~
They fought over who owned the gold that thay had found
And bodies of once chinese diggers lay everywhere~
The story goes they fought with their shovels
And the bones and shovels lasy there still~
Along with they say the gold they found
But go up and dig no body will~
These chinese diggers they go back
To the first Australians hundreds of years ago~
And as it's told in those days of old
They'd dig day and night for gold~
As I looked around making out what I saw
I felt so for their hardship and work done~
By the oldest methods of labour
And with little for same to be won~
Their search and then greed had killed them all
As they fought for and over all the gold~
And now their bones have found their homes
Of this the oldest story still it lives to be told~
