LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
(1770 - 1827)
COMPOSER
A delightful mystery carried to his grave
Beethoven's love letters to her were saved
He cared for her desperately but he could not possess
The love of his life in his arms to caress
He called her his "angel", "my very self", "my all"
On his knees to her, he figuratively crawled
Her memory in his letters he outwardly proclaimed
But he was careful not to leave any trace of her name
Growing irreversibly deaf, heavy was his heart
Although he composed he turn sadly introvert
A haunting love story passed down in time
Two lover's feelings portrayed so sublime
Who was this queen of Beethoven's heart?
I was caught up intrigued from the start
A love so strong should be an example for us
Revealed so magnificently by Beethoven thus

Note:
It is not clear whether new revelations will lead to a better understanding of their relationship. There is no proof Beethoven was sexually involved with his "Beloved"–or anyone else for that matter. Yet she was the object of his deep desire to be married. Without her, Beethoven gave up hope for such a life. When he died of liver failure in 1827, the only trace of the "Immortal Beloved" was the three-part love letter he left behind, signed "Ever thine, Ever mine, Ever ours."
