Poetry For Everyday People

Beautiful Scars Defiant

Where do we go
when it's all been said
and done?

when we know the next
line, thought, move,
as we back up to avoid
the kiss that does not
belong to us,

been played, got played,
conned, abused, stabbed,
shot at, let down,
left in the alley,

where do we go
when it's all been said
and done?

holes in walls, fights
in bars, tears on roofs,
death by living
with a heart,

rumored, slandered, betrayed,
told we had no chance, no talent,
no choice,

where do we go
when it's all been said
and done?

young friends in graves, memories
lingering by night lights,
old voices that'll make you puke,

too many goodbyes, judgments, taken
for granted, door matted, forgotten,
last on the list,

where do we go
when it's all been said
and done?

we pick up guitars, pens, violins,
we write on napkins, paint on sidewalks,
we jump off roofs suspended by giant rubber bands,

we hug instead of punch, we give thumbs up
instead of put down, we tread softly on hearts
that feel same as ours, we give a chance,

where do we go
when it's all been said
and done?

we use hell's fire to make iron speak,
we go to temporary wars over funny shaped
balls, we gamble to tease luck,

we find love and stick to it like fire
to the sun,

we turn it up side down
shake it
and pour it
right.
