LAZY BONES

LAZY BONES

In the second grade my class put on the play 'Tom Sawyer'
My sister and I were in it and were sunflowers
The plot was Tom was to whitewash his aunt's
fence and he was so lazy that he wanted others to do his work

Our costumes were made from yellow and green crape paper
cut in the shape of petals and leaves
We did a little dance and sang
Lazy Bones sleeping in the noon day sun
how you gonna get a day's work done

Our classroom was the girl's dressing room
Several of the mothers came and help us get dressed
The lady that helped with my costume smiled when she saw me
It gave me a warm feeling inside
She said you are a pretty little thing
What is your name and where do you live
<><><><><>
I smiled back at her and said
I live in a house with four walls and a roof
my name is Puddin' N' Tain ask me again and I'll tell you the same
<><><><><>
A frown covered her smile which made me feel sad
I thought I was being clever and not bad
A new lesson I leaned at school that day
Sometimes it is best to just listen and not speak
<><><><><>
The sound of the applause didn't cover
the sound of my heart beating so hard
in front of all those people in the audience

*Puddin' N' Tain is a play on the name of an Irish high chief
who was known as the Tain with his specific name in front of it.
The Puddin" Tain was someone of not royal status
but someone who had pretentions and was deridded
with the name high King of the Puddings.
later it became a Children's rhyme of Scots-Irish origin.
