What lurks beneath the sweetest smile?
Can you tell if it's true or false, would you know?
Do you think you would be able to look beneath?
Past the exterior that's only on show!
Can you trust what your eyes perceive?
Would you know if it was true, what you see?
And if you had a doubt, how could you be sure?
Would you have an idea what lurks within me?
Can you see into the depths of the soul?
Of the person that you trust to be true;
Or do you take what you see, to be all that it seems?
Tell me, would you even have a clue?
Can you tell what is within the beating heart?
Is it true of the person it belies?
Or can you not tell; can you ever know!
Whether it tells only the truth or it tells you lies?
Can you ever be sure what is in the head?
What is in the heart that you think you know!
Or is it taken on trust, and accepted?
Do you trust all they have that's on show?
Can you ever be sure, ever be certain?
That the person you see before your eyes,
Is telling the truth, is showing themselves,
To be as true as they are, or is it all lies?
Can you see into their soul, into their heart?
By looking deep within their eyes…
Can you see what it is that you need to see?
Is it the truth, or is it deceit and lies?
Can you ever really know if what you see is true?
Can you ever really know if it's all false on show?
Can you ever, can you ever trust them true;
Can you see what lurks beneath – will you ever know?
Is it truth, is it lies, and is it false or is it bad?
Is it fact, is it shown as it is, is it good?
Is it there on their face, written in their eyes?
Is it true, would you know, do you think you could?
We only see what they want us to see,
Whether it's true, or false, how can we tell?
Because personally I think they can hide it!
And some hide it; oh, so very well!!!
