In Memory Of Jamie Rose (A letter to her Murderer)
This poem is about a true story that happened in our small community in April 2006, a ten yr old girl
came up missing, the two adjoining towns looked ernestly for four days, several times asking her killer
if he had seen her, each time he would deny, until the police found her little body in his closet. Most
of the two towns went to her funeral, she was unknown to most since she was a new girl in town, only living
there for a few months. Her life was short, but after this, it made an impact on everyone, even strangers.
Some days it's easy to put this memory in the back of our minds, and then there are days when it haunts us.
Dear Lost Soul
You were never famous as you grew up,
your only fans were your family,
I saw your picture in the paper and
somehow in my heart you moved me.
I thought what a shame you put on
your mother,
Thoughts of you playing galantly
with your sister and brother.
You were once a baby in your mothers
arms,
As a boy you probably had all those
innocent charms.
Did you spend time with your dad
going fishing?
Did you ever lay beneath the oak tree
and do any wishing?
I read in the paper how you tried
dealing with mental illness,
how those drugs the doctor prescribed
for you was a mess.
Then I saw your ten year old victim,
her hair so red and her eyes so blue.
She trusted you without really knowing
you.
You lured her into your house that day,
you tricked her with an evil charm,
She never thought you were that kind
of person to cause her any harm.
Did thoughts of your past enter your
mind as you hit her on the head?
Did images of your own little sister
flash in your mind as that little girl
laid there dead?
And when you stuffed her in that
container hoping nobody would know,
Did you even consider she would be
missed by her dad, you think she
wanted to go?
For days the whole town looked for
her, in every place,
For days we looked at every stangers
face.
We never for one moment thought it
would have been you,
Because you grew up around us, we never
knew.
You worked in the same place as our
family,
Several times throughout the year
you came in contact with me.
What made you snap, what caused you
to do that to that little girl,
Did you not know that she was her
Dads world?
She became the town's little angel,
We wanted so much to ease the pain,
We held our children and prayed
that she didn't die in vain.
You didn't only destroy your family,
with your confession,
you brought a town to it's knee,
With no look of regression.
I wanted you to know that you put
a permanent crack in our heart,
And a memory of alittle angel that
our minds will never impart.
