Heart Of The Matter

I Read, And I Weep

A walk on the shoreline,
Our feet shifting sand,
You try to explain, but
I don't understand,
Your rhyme and your reason,
In vacant decay,
You once so inspired me,
But not so, today,

Your words firmly spoke,
With panache and with style,
Now tarnished and torn,
Have been so, for a while,
A feeling foreboding,
I sense your demise,
A falling from grace,
Indiscriminate lies,

The truth for the telling,
To those who will hear,
They stab at the sidelines,
They whisper a cheer,
And long is the night,
For those feigning sleep,
I watch as you crumble,
I read, and I weep.
