Poetry For Everyday People

A Walk In The Park

I walked as the wind
kissed my cheeks and
tried to shake leaves free

it was a perfect light drizzle
rainy day, I'd written a poem
that morning that carried me smiling
through the park, the words kept
playing in my head and I was momentarily
content,

freed leaves danced around me
flowers smiled kissing the rain
squirrels played around the fountains
butterflies like musical notes in the air
flied me a symphony in color

I stopped to pick up a crumpled soda can
laying on the green grass
threw it in the trash can two feet from it,
next to the trash can stood a hundred year old
live oak tree with KKK carved on it
I changed the carving to a flower

it was the kind of morning and the kind of walk
that had no chance of interruption,
serenity floating through time,
I was certain that if I put my finger out
a bird would land on it.
