 The Beginning of the Church

For forty days He gave evidence He was alive
His appearances are proof that no one can deny
He commanded that we tell others far and near
The Gospel message the world needs to hear

Jesus ascended and then the church age began
The Bible tells us many souls were born again
They met regularly for fellowship and prayer
Always serving to encourage each other there

At this time the promised Holy Spirit was sent
To indwell all believers at the time they repent
With the Spirit, we experience His divine power
As we allow Him to guide and direct us each hour

There is division and strife in our churches today
Disunity arises due to music or what others say
True worship is more than songs that you sing
It is a willing sacrifice to Him that you bring

Some people have a distorted view of the church
Maybe a bad experience has left them in the lurch
By observing Christians not doing what they say
They want no part of the church if all are that way

Whatever reasons you may have from your past
God loves and accepts you just as you are at last
Everyone has a longing inside only Jesus can fill
A real church reaches out by the values they instill

If the church is not a place for acceptance and love
Where else could we grow in grace from God above?
The church is there to equip us to serve one another
Our mission is to go and share the Gospel with others

Romans 15:7 (NIV)
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you,
in order to bring praise to God.
