There and Back Again

PRISON DEFINED

In a secret cell of our own devising
Bars born of memories and pain
Razor wire emotions waiting to ensnare us
should we try to escape again!

No gaoler here with bunch of brass keys
To slam the door and lock us in
No judge or jury have passed sentence
Or found us guilty of any sin.

This dark dungeon, cold and chill
Built strong to keep our souls apart
Not to shut us in
But to keep you out
In case you break our fragile heart.
