Poetry For Everyday People

The Friend Effect

The world at times
fills me up and
I try to melted into poems,
shape it safe, write quietly
towards understanding or
momentary rescue,

my brother Mike "Howling Wind" Davis
calls me up and plays blues harp
for me so passionately
before he ever says a word, or calls
just to play a new song he wrote,

my brother Eric calls me up stuck in
traffic saying hello and playing
Neil Young for me, and what is unspoken
between us is a home in friendship,

that's the magic of the world man,
those are the phone calls that make
your heart remember what your mind
is forgetting,

pour a cold beer, a glass of wine,
know you've done some good things in life
to know people like that, to have friends
like that,

the world at times
fills me up and
I try to melted into poems,
shape it safe, write quietly
towards understanding or
momentary rescue.
