We were chatting the other day
With folks who grew up our way
We reminisced on days of yore
The Life we knew we cannot ignore
In those good old days we had it all
Compared to now as we recalled
Things were rough but yet we strived
Our parent's love we weren't deprived
Mom remained a great housewife
No thoughts of "career" in her humble life
Dad always had spare time for us
He was never in too much of a rush
Babysitters were not a must
Mom took care without a fuss
Neighbours kept an eye out too
Missing children were very few
Our humble home did not need change
To leave each other we thought strange
No carpet plush as those faux fur
The polished hard floor we preferred
The cool fresh breeze was our only fan
Air conditions belonged in rich folk's hands
Hand-me-downs were what we wore
Salvation Army Outlets were our store
No fancy hot tubs to take our bath
New sports cars were not in our path
Hand written notes came filled with love
Computer's emails were not dreamt of
Aw! To return to those grand days
To embrace again Nature's ways
Under God's protection we survived
Safetly to these days we have arrived
