Gusts flow across the campus at Virginia Tech,
snow flurries scurry like scared children in distress.
An eerie hopelessness roams the classrooms and dorm,
a crazed man enters the room like an atrocious storm,
courageous and innocent students sense this is not norm.
Their lives...in the palm of a demented kind,
doubts fill their souls and strain their minds,
unsure of the acts of this one-of-a-kind,
what's happened...has he lost his mind?
A professor struggles to hold the wild one back,
while students run, jump out windows and make tracts.
He lost his life on this illogical day,
helping as many as he could to get away.
He's a survivor of the holocaust long ago,
a brave man who chose to give up his soul.
Students also stood heroic...blocking doors,
putting their lives in danger as they lay on the floors.
Our hearts go out to each of these valiant souls,
who did their best to protect students keeping Virginia Tech whole.
These warriors will forever walk these awesome halls,
because this institution will stand firm and tall.
We grieve for all of you who were took on this day,
your names are forever engraved in our bodies of clay.
You're archangels...loaned to God for a spell,
one day we'll meet you in His garden by the well.
