I loved being back there
In the time I loved it's true~
I'd go back tomorrow
And I suppose would more than a few~
I miss the older ways of working sheep
That way , way back we'd do~
Mustering , marking , dipping , drenching
Fly and footrot too~
Shearing time it was a joy
Pressing with that old handle long and thick~
From the experts , classers and to the tarboys
They all knew and loved it , knew every trick~
Checking ewes when they were lambing
Most of all those on the slopes~
Many a chore from back post to front door
All good workers and very handy blokes~
Yards , races , sheds and silos
Hay sheds and machinery sheds as well~
Milking sheds and shearers quarters
All had to be maintained ever so swell~
Up before dawn always of a day
Working till the moon came out to shine~
Rode long in the stirup all day long
Loved those early sheep station day of mine~
Taking care of stud cattle and stud sheep
So much work had to be done~
But we never then saw it as work
We loved it and to us it all was fun~
Did not like riding in wet jeans
Or riding through deep mud on a day~
But loved it out there on the spread
Baling and stacking all the hay~
Breaking in horses , training my dogs
The best friends I've ever had were they~
Loved being back there did I what
Working hard , doing things the good old fashion way~
