Wood Nymph

My  Old Church

Parallel to Salkehatchie Swamp
Where oak trees line the way,
Stands Peniel Baptist Church
Where people go to pray.

I stand by two headstones
And my heart aches with pain.
I miss my Mom and Dad.
I know I'll see them again.

I kneel to place a rose,
Momma's favorite flower.
My face shows the loss
Of their final hours.

A new church has been built,
But all that I can see-
I'm still playing the piano
And Mom and Dad are smiling at me.
