Poetry For Everyday People

Life Corners

Sometimes I am overwhelmed
with the reality of living
the clock ticking and peace
nowhere to be found,

how much more breathing?

I sit here typing these words
hoping to change my mood take
my mind someplace happy, quiet,
I don't wanna think about this,
don't wanna remember what hurts,

life corners us at times and
we're forced to face inevitability
and I stop, for a minute, go outside,
smell gardenias, jasmine, orange
blue melting red sky, bowing sun,
I play Jimi Hendrix's little wing
in my head,

I come back in, drink a glass of water,
sit with words again, jasmine calm, I think
about all the beautiful people I know, the
beautiful people I have yet to know, what
will save us?  how these words have gotten
me through nights, days, years, hell,

life corners, and we must bring out our arsenal
of good memories,  positive thinking, dream big
and reach forever.
