Heart Of The Matter
I Watched You Write
I try to write for you,
I sit with pen in hand,
The words are slow to form,
I'm distracted, you can see,
You're sitting close,
Yes, much too close to me.
So ……
I watched you write for me,
Words hastily scribbled on scrap,
Fingers tapping to a silent tune,
Forming a sweet melody,
Only audible in your mind,
An old guitar held lovingly,
As you pluck notes from its strings,
Words and music coming together,
The song consummated,
And borne of love,
I watched you write for me,
Vision blurred through mist of tears,
The song, my confirmation,
You've felt the same,
Through all these years.
