Pray for me lest you forget
The madness of one man,
Infectious, spreading,
Took grip of a Nation
Taking rhyme and reason with it
Along with countless lives.
Pray for me lest you forget
That I turned away,
Hiding my face, closing my mind
While millions were robbed
Of the clothes on their backs,
The hair from their heads,
The gold from their mouths
And finally
The air from their lungs.
Pray for me lest you forget
Their smiling faces,
Laughing children, loving parents.
Memories that disappeared in smoke
Through incinerator chimneys.
Pray for me lest you forget
The architecture of civilisation
Blown to the four winds,
The cultures I have destroyed.
For I must blame someone for my frustrations.
Pray for me then lest you forget
That this has happened, can happen
Will happen, anywhere any time.
For I have not learnt to love.
My eyes do not see,
My ears do not hear.
I will always impose my will.
So pray for me lest you forget
That I am MANKIND.
